Client Spotlight

October 28, 2016

The Selfie Girls...a.k.a Danielle, Hillary, Kathy and Kim!

Danielle Bates:

1. How long have you been a client with SLHF?

Almost two years now

2. What do you look forward to the most when coming to class?

Being challenged with different workouts each time.

3. What has been the most rewarding part of your SLHF experience?

The strength I have gained. I have more muscle tone than I have ever had!

4. What keeps you going/motivated?

My tribe! We keep each other going and motivated! When you have people at the gym at 5:30am waiting you it makes you get out of bed!

5. What has been the hardest part of this journey?

I struggle with back pain, but all of the coaches at SL make sure I have options if one of the exercises causes any pain.

6. What has been your favorite exercise and why?

The TRX! There are so many things you can do on it using your own body weight! I find myself very sore afterwards and it feels awesome!

7. What advice can you offer others looking to start?

No matter what level of fitness you are, this gym will help you! There is no judging and you can go at your own pace! There are so many classes to choose from you just need to start and find your favorite!

Kathy Lam

1. How long have you been a client with SLHF?

About two years

2. What do you look forward to the most when coming to class?

I look forward to knowing I will feel great after that hour! Not always easy to get up (I’m usually at the 5:30 am classes), but once I’m there, I’m ready to go. The timing is perfect for me as a busy working Mom and this is a great way to start the day. I also have the pleasure of working out with a great group of women who inspire me daily to get up and keep going! I love seeing their smiling faces before we work out.

3. What has been the most rewarding part of your SLHF experience?

I have been running and playing soccer (cardio junkie!) since I was very young, and knew that I needed to get more strength training in for better overall body health. These classes are the perfect fit for

me. It is a no pressure environment, with lots of support from not only our SLHF coaches, but from the group of people that work out there too. I feel stronger and healthier since I have incorporated

SLHF into my weekly workout routine. I feel great after every workout!

4. What keeps you going/motivated?

I’m very lucky to have a group of women that inspire me every day to keep going. However, I also know how good I feel after I get the work out in. Not only is it good for my physical health, but mental health as well.

5. What has been the hardest part of this journey?

Really none – love working out here!

6. What has been your favorite exercise and why?

Burpees… just kidding! Because my legs see a lot of action on the trail or the soccer field, I love the ab and arm exercises. They challenge me to strengthen the weakest parts of my body. These are areas over the past few years that have become stronger and I feel great!

7. What advice can you offer others looking to start?

It is always difficult to start. Find a buddy is probably the best advice. You can keep each other accountable and keep each other going. I think when you first start out, you should be patient with yourself as well. Start slow and work your way up – no need to feel you have to move fast or lift this weight, etc. You’ll impress yourself on how far you’ll come in such a short time.

Kim Lavallee

1. How long have you been a client with SLHF?

I’ve been coming to SLHF for going on 2 years. It all started with a Groupon at the beginning of 2015 and my friends and I just kept going back!

2. What do you look forward to the most when coming to class?

I look forward to starting my day with a great workout with my friends! I know that each workout will be intense and different every time.

3. What has been the most rewarding part of your SLHF experience?

I am a mom of 3 young children and am in better shape than I’ve ever been and it feels great! The workouts at SLHF and motivation from the staff have been a key factor in getting there.

4. What keeps you going/motivated?

Having friends to work out with at 5:30am helps keep me accountable and makes it easier to get up so early (I am not a morning bird, so this is a big deal!) and the results I see from the workouts are what keep me motivated. Each class is different so I look forward to what each workout will bring.

5. What has been the hardest part of this journey?

Having a regular workout routine has been great, but sometimes life happens. Getting back into my routine after a period of missing workouts has been most challenging.

6. What has been your favorite exercise and why?

I suppose planking and the variety of plank exercises I’ve learned at SLHF are my favorite. It’s a simple yet effective exercise for working my core.

7. What advice can you offer others looking to start?

Just do it! It may be hard at first, but the staff at SLHF are very engaging and the variety of workouts offered and results you see will keep you coming back. If possible, try to find a friend to work out with. A workout AND time with friends is a great way to start your day!

Hillary Olance

1. How long have you been a client with SLHF?

2 years

2. What do you look forward to the most when coming to class?

The motivation from the coaches, knowing that I am always going to get a great workout, (I have never been disappointed) and of course, being able to work out with my friends. 

3. What has been the most rewarding part of your SLHF experience?

Not only seeing the changes in the mirror but also feeling stronger, both mentally and physically. Pushing myself in ways I didn’t think possible.

4. What keeps you going/motivated?

This year for me it was that I was training for my first marathon, something I NEVER thought I could conquer. Chip really helped me focus on my goal and was a great source of support and motivator. Having that finish line in sight really helped keep me on track with my workouts week after week. I also am constantly motivated by the support and encouragement of my workout crew – they keep me going and make those early morning wake–ups easier and WAY more fun!

5. What has been the hardest part of this journey?

I think it’s always scary trying something new for the first time, hoping that you can keep up with those around you, but I have never felt uncomfortable at Starting Line from day one. Everyone is so friendly no matter what fitness level they are at.

6. What has been your favorite exercise and why?

I love the Tabata classes on Wednesday’s. It’s not only a great variety of exercises but the format makes the time fly by!

7. What advice can you offer others looking to start?

Just start. Starting a new routine is the hardest part but once you make it a priority it’s addictive and will change your life for the better!
