Gut Health Protein Latte

Since reading Dr. Josh Axe’s book Eat Dirt, I have been making a concerted effort to make gut health an important part of my diet. He speaks of the benefits from collagen peptides and bone broth extensively. He states “Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It's found in our muscles, bones, skin and tendons. It's the “glue” that helps hold the body together. It gives our skin strength and elasticity, and helps replace dead skin cells. Our body's collagen production naturally begins to slow down as we age.” I have made a bone broth/collagen latte part of my daily routine. You can find the original recipe at The Real Food Dietitians. The original recipe does not include the bone broth powder, I have added that for additional protein.

12 ounces hot brewed coffee

1 teaspoon of coconut oil

1/4 cup of milk (Any milk choice will work. I prefer a grass fed cow’s milk that is lactose free or coconut milk because the fat content creates a nice milky foam. If you choose a nut based milk or soy milk, you may want to add an additional teaspoon of coconut oil)

I scoop collagen peptide powder (Ancient Nutrition and Vital Proteins each make a great flavorless version that easily dissolves.

1/2 - 1 scoop bone broth powder (I use Ancient Nutrition Banana Creme because I like banana coffee, but any flavor will work)

Dash of cinnamon

Dash of stevia

Pour all ingredients in blender (I use Vitamix) and blend on high for 20-30 seconds until a nice foam is created on top. Enjoy immediately.
